Dear Parent,
Severe Weather Conditions
The winter is not yet over, and we may yet experience severe cold and wintry weather in the coming weeks. We felt it might be helpful to clarify the School's position in the case of severe weather returning.
Our aim will normally be to remain open if possible, as we are aware that many parents are reliant on the school to be open.
On any occasion when the media are announcing that severe weather may affect local transport, and some schools/businesses may be closed, we would convey ANY CHANGE TO OUR NORMAL ARRANGEMENTS via Groupcall text and parent email, as well as our website, by 8am or earlier if possible. Ideally, we would hope to contact you the previous evening, if we were aware of specific circumstances.
In such circumstances, when school remained open as normal, we would always respect the views of parents who wished their children to remain at home due to concerns about their safety or particular travel difficulties. Likewise, if concerns arose during the day, pupils would be allowed to leave early if you contacted the school or arrived at Reception/the Junior School office to collect them. If any children had any difficulty in travelling home later in the day, they would be kept safe in school for as long as necessary.
There may, however, be circumstances which cause either Junior or Senior School, or both schools, to be closed - for instance, due to loss of power, or damage to the fabric of the building. If that should occur, we would contact parents as soon as possible by Groupcall text and email, as well as via the school website.
We very much hope that we shall not experience further severe weather issues before the end of this term, but we believe that clarification of our intentions will be helpful for school families.
Yours sincerely,
Colin D R Mair & Karen Waugh
