hockeyThe Physical Education Department has many aims: to introduce and develop a wide range of skills, both individual and team, indoor, outdoor and in water; to encourage social development and ability to work together in a small group or as a team; respect for rules, each other and the opposition; and sportsmanship. The department aims to foster self-discipline and encourage pupils to enjoy their participation in various activities with the hope that they will continue some sort of physical activity when they leave school.

Classes are taught in single sex and co-ed groups throughout the school depending upon the activity. The main sports during the Christmas and Easter terms are rugby for the boys and hockey for the girls. The main sports in the summer term are tennis for the girls, cricket for the boys and athletics for both.

Activities covered within the PE and Games curriculum include aerobics, athletics, badminton, basketball, circuits, cross country , curling, fitness, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, hockey, lacrosse, netball, orienteering, rounders, rugby, social dance, swimming, tennis, volleyball and weights.
